When the cargo’s condition has been altered and its value reduced.
Typical cases: breakage, dents, water damage, rust, contamination, mold, temperature deviation.
Key idea: the cargo arrives, but not in usable condition.

When the quantity received is less than the quantity shipped.
Typical cases: seal pilferage, partial loss, count discrepancies, weight shortages, total non-delivery.
Key idea: the cargo is incomplete or missing.

When the cargo arrives later than agreed or expected.
Typical cases: port congestion, vessel rollover, missed transshipment, customs hold-up, carrier negligence.
Key idea: the cargo is intact, but time obligations are breached.

When cargo is delivered or discharged incorrectly.
Typical cases: delivery to the wrong consignee, release without the original bill of lading, overcarriage to the wrong port, deviation, short landing.
Key idea: the cargo is delivered, but not to the right hands or the right location.
